The Tunze Turbelle Nanostream 6105 ORCA kit not only includes the Tunze ORCA MK2 0501.000 Powerhead Mount, but also includes a Tunze Turbelle Nanostream 6105.005 HUB Edition pump capable of pushing 793 to 3170 GPH. The ORCA MK2 is an oscillating powerhead mount designed to add dynamic flow by physically moving a circulation pump. Instead of pushing water in one direction 24/7, the ORCA slowly rotates a powerhead, changing the direction of flow throughout the tank to better replicate natural reef conditions. This type of movement helps reduce dead spots, keeps detritus suspended so that it can be removed by filtration, and improves overall flow coverage without adding additional pumps.
The ORCA MK2 is controlled through the Tunze Reef Assistant app, giving you a high level of control over how the powerhead moves throughout the day. From the app, you can adjust rotation direction, set the sweep angle, and even vary the pump’s flow rate based on where it is pointing to better match your tank’s dimensions, aquascape, and livestock needs. For example, you might choose to place the ORCA on the back of your aquarium and have the pump run at a slower speed when it's facing the front of the tank to avoid disturbing the sandbed, then increase flow when the pump is aimed toward the sides to help reach the end of the aquarium. You can also use this feature to slow the pump speed down when it's pointing towards more delicate corals that would be damaged by intense flow.
The ORCA MK2 uses a carbon fiber tube for finely adjustable length and stable positioning. The tube can be adjusted in small increments without tools, making it easy to set the correct height for your system. The included mount is designed for glass thickness up to 22 mm (0.87") and works with rimless aquariums as well as tanks with a eurobrace. The mounting approach is similar to the Osmolator 3 style tubing mount. While the ORCA isn't designed to be used submerged, the electronics and control system are fully encapsulated in PU resin, and the seals are designed to resist water intrusion. The ORCA MK2 oscillating unit is protected against splashes and temporary submersion, giving you peace of mind if it happens to go for an unexpected swim.
The included Turbelle nanostream 6105 pairs well with the ORCA MK2, offering an adjustable flow range from 793 to 3170 GPH. This allows flow to be tuned as the pump changes direction, allowing you to set up custom flow patterns across the tank. This pump is particularly popular for its wide flow pattern. It's ideal for aquariums up to 132 gallons, even though it draws just a few watts of power.
